The Indian team will be starting their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on the 23rd of October. They will be looking to crack the code to win their first trophy since their first one at the inaugural edition.
They had a disappointing tournament during the last edition of the T20 World Cup which was held in UAE. However, Rohit Sharma and co. will be hoping for delivering their best in Australia.
Here we take a look at India‘s probable team for the clash against Pakistan.
Openers – Rohit Sharma (C) and KL Rahul
Rohit Sharma has been in attacking mode since their group-stage exit in the last year’s World Cup. On the other hand, KL Rahul found some rhythm during the series against South Africa and Australia. However, they will be looking to dominate the fearsome trio of Shaheen Sha Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.
Middle Order – Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Dinesh Karthik
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will play a vital role in the upcoming tournament. Since the Australian grounds are big, Kohli will be helpful in converting ones into twos.
Suryakumar has been in tremendous form and hoping to score more runs during the middle overs. The wicket-keeping batsman, Dinesh Karthik is known for his effective cameos in recent days. However, his batting position will be changed according to the match situation.
Allrounders – Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel
Hardik Pandya has been in immense confidence when it comes to handling pressure situations. He is one of the few players who could contribute well with the bat and the ball.
On the other hand, Axar Patel could play an important role in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja. Since India has no left-handers in the top 6, they might use him at the top if India loses their top order early.
Bowlers – Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar and Arshdeep Singh
Yuzvendra Chahal will get a nod ahead of experienced Ravi Ashwin since he can be lethal on the big grounds. Following the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be leading the pace attack in the World Cup.
Even though Bhuvneshwar and Harshal Patel were not at their best in the recently concluded games, Rohit might start with them ahead of Mohammed Shami. Meanwhile, Arshdeep has sealed his place as he would be looking to execute the perfect yorkers in the death overs.
